Uninstall xcode 3.2.6

This is inconvenient for developers who do not need Xcode:. Furthermore, Property List Editor is now part of Xcode and is no longer its own app. Xcode's integrated property list editor has more features, but Xcode takes a long time to start up and uses a lot of memory.

Standalone Property List Editor takes less than a second to start up. Fortunately, the standalone developer tools included with Xcode 3. This repo provides an easy way to install these tools without installing the rest of the Xcode package. Log in with your Apple ID and download "Xcode 3. The installer does not install files anywhere else. Skip to content.

For example, ports are generally engineered to have as many features as possible, even if that means pulling in a few dependencies you personally might not need, or installing some documentation you personally might never read. It's worth it to us, for the sake of the users for whom those items are important, and it makes it possible for other ports to declare dependencies on them and know that the features will be there.

As the "disk space is cheap" mantra is valid for HDDs but not for SSDs, and since Xcode now comes with a lot of iOS stuff which many users might not need, an entry explaining how they can "trim down" their Xcode install without deleterious consequences would be very welcome, wouldn't you agree?

Note you'll need to run Software Update afterwards. I just realised it is in fact possible to install Xcode 3. Although the "Essentials" component is greyed out in such a way that it looks like there is no choice but to install all of it, there is a sub-menu that can be displayed by clicking on the the grey triangle, which allows the user to untick iOS SDK saving 8.

Someone should update the MacPorts guide, as it is not necessary to download 3. Thanks for finding this and pointing it out. This is helpful if you've already downloaded Xcode 3. But it is still an unnecessary use of bandwidth and time to download Xcode 3.

What I meant to say was that because we have for years now subscribed to the idea that disk space is cheap notwithstanding the fact that this does not apply to SSDs , consequences of this can be seen throughout MacPorts. The large Xcode install is not going to be the only place where you might experience greater disk usage than you, with an expensive disk, are comfortable with. I'm explaining that this is not easy to change in MacPorts at this time.

I agree a document in the wiki about how to reclaim some disk space would be welcomed. Possible subtopics could include removing parts of Xcode that aren't needed, removing distfiles, uninstalling inactive ports, uninstalling leaves, cleaning failed partial builds, I don't have time to write this document now, but anyone else should feel free to do so; the wiki is open for anyone with a Trac account to edit.

Try to avoid moving or copying files around, unless absolutely necessary. I was able to keep all those goals. Almost everything is done by creating symlinks. Only a single existing symlink had to be replaced and we'll back it up before replacement, just in case. Bear in mind that even spacing, quoting and especially capitalization can be important. Should any operation ever prompt you for a password, this will be the password of the currently logged in administrator user your keystrokes are not displayed while typing, this is normal, don't worry, just keep typing the password and hit return; re-try if you had a typo and get prompted again.

Prerequisites Before we can start, make sure the following conditions are true: You are logged in as an administrator user. You have started Terminal. You have a copy of the Xcode3 e. Uninstalling Xcode will not remove your preferences, color scheme or key binding customizations. Ideally you'd start with a system that has no Xcode version neither 3 nor 4 currently installed. Whether you want to install Mac OS X You are free to choose any destination folder for your installation.

Just make sure to alter all terminal commands accordingly. The order of the steps given here is usually not really important, but I strongly advise you to not swap step 1 and step 2. Xcode always installs a couple of files outside of the chosen destination folder and trust me, in the end you want the Xcode4 versions of those files on your disk.

By installing Xcode3 before Xcode4, you can be sure that Xcode4 will overwrite those files if necessary. I once swapped steps 1 and 2 and in the end I had some rather strange issues that might have been related to the incorrect order I cannot say for sure, but after re-installing in the correct order the issues were gone. Step 2: Installing Xcode4 Chose any packets you like.

Installing System Tools is advisable, but not strictly necessary though most people will sooner or later miss that functionality. Again, feel free to pick any target folder you like. Step 3: Restoring The following comments are owned by whoever posted them.

This site is not responsible for what they say. This still works with Xcode 4. As in the original hint, install Xcode 3. You can safely change the date back again after installation obviously! If you want command line support e. Yes, that is correct. Thank you for that valuable comment :- [ Reply to This ].
