This game takes the Smurfs on a global adventure, as the title implies, so they can repair the magic crystal that Smurfette broke. It's another standard platformer with exploration, enemies that can be avoided or kicked, and keys to collect that unlock bonus stages.

In The Smurf's Nightmare, instead of kidnapping Smurfs as he does in many other games, Gargamel casts a spell that leaves the smurfs asleep and stuck in their nightmares.

Despite still being in their village and not in Gargamel's castle, the Smurfs still have to be rescued from these nightmares by the player character smurf by gaining access to their houses after finding the keys that allow the player to do so.

Like some other Smurf games, there are different environments and monsters in each level, but now different goals are added that must be achieved to complete each level. There's not much else to say about The Smurfs' nightmare, but at least the story and concept are a little different, even if it is yet another 2D platformer.
